What is Carnaval del Pueblo

THE LARGEST LATIN AMERICAN EVENT IN EUROPE

Carnaval del Pueblo (CdP), supported by Southwark Council,
The London Mayor’s Office, Arts Council and The European Social Fund,
is the largest Latin American out-door event in Europe.

This event has significantly grown every year since the start.
Conservative figures from the Metropolitan Police indicate
that attendance has risen from 4,000 people in 1999
to more than 130,000 in 2007.

CdP is the event of the year for all Latinos and lovers of their culture.
Londoners of all communities come together and share this intense cultural experience. Bonds are explored and discovered; reinforcing this
community’s integrate part in the capital’s common cultural heritage.

Dance, music and carnival activities are enjoyed,
in a peaceful and stimulating Latin American ambience,
both in Burgess Park and during the preceding
Carnival street procession.

Float Procession

A colourful and striking costumed float procession of some 19 floats,
showcase the music, arts and dance in representation of the rich
cultural heritage from 19 Latin American countries.

Emphasis is placed on the significant input from culturally exotic
countries such as Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.

This float procession leaves London City Hall then files out onto the street,
and begins its progress towards Burgess Park, passing through
London Bridge, Elephant & Castle and other main streets covering
a 3mile route (see map below). The crowds line the pavement,
at times spilling onto the road. The parade starts at 12pm and reaches
the park at around 3pm where the party continuous until 9:30pm.

Artists and activities at the park

The carnival has a history of attracting world class stars and
Grammy Prize winners such as Grupo Niche, Oscar D’León, Willie Colón,
Adalberto Santiag, Gilberto Santarosa and Henry Fiol –the salsa giants–,
as well as Lizandro Mesa and The Embajadores Vallenatos,
almost God like statures in Latin America, who introduced
the highly danceable Cumbia and Vallenato music to the West.
It also count with the presence of a multitude of London and
European based artists performing the best of Latino rhythms,
bringing pleasure and excitement to all.

In addition to CdP’s main stage where all international stature artists
entertain the public, there is a great diversity of components that make
this day an experience full of excitement .

These include:

4 stages that provide entertainment from Latin America
such as Brazil, Andean countries and not forgetting the very popular
space for Reggaeton and Latin Hip Hop for young Latinos.

The Open Salsa Dance Championship held publicly, in the open air,
throughout the day in the Park, with the final held on the main stage
at prime time, where the public can choose their winners.

Large Screen on the sides of the main stage

The children’s zone full of bouncy castles, workshops and
fun fair rides is very popular with children and parents.

3 large Bars where a variety of Drinks and Beer are sold

One of the main components of this event is
the Street Carnival float procession.

Stall Villages

CdP offers approximately 120 stall marquees where stall holders
trade in Latin American, Caribbean and Western food and drinks and
also Arts and Crafts from the region.

Promotional stalls are set up, where British and International companies
promote their business to this steady growing audience and
who are all potential customers, more that 100,000 attending public on 2006.
(We can advice on promotional ideas focused at this target audience)

Promotion of Event and Attending Public

A research undertaken by City University in 2004 revealed that the economic impact that this event has on London is of over £2.5 millions.

A survey carried out in 2006 (City University) shows that even though
this is a Latin American event, it has reached a much wider audience,
attracting people from all across London. This is as a result of
the hard work undertaken to promote the event by the organizers.

CdP’s PR and Promotion is undertaken by our dedicated Public Relations team

Southwark Council provides high quality infrastructure including
a main stage for international artists, a stage for Brazil, one for Andean
countries and Mexico, and another one for
Reggeatton and Latin Hip Hop.
